The adaptive immunologic microenvironment in colorectal cancer: a novel perspective.

چکیده
Colorectal cancer is one of the most common malignancies, often presenting with a poor prognosis. To date, the anatomic extent of disease has been by far the most important prognostic factor. Recently, we obtained evidence that the type, density, and location of immune cells in colorectal cancer could provide a prognostic factor superior and independent to that of criteria related to the anatomic extent of the tumor. Here, we discuss the meaning and potential implications of this novel finding.

Promoter hypermethylation of KLOTHO; an anti-senescence related gene in colorectal cancer patients of Kashmir valley
Hypermethylation of CpG islands located in the promoter regions of genes is a major event in the development of the majority of cancer types, due to the subsequent aberrant silencing of important tumor suppressor genes. KLOTHO; a novel gene associated primarily with suppressing senescence has been shown to contribute to tumorigenesis as a result of its impaired function. Recently the relevance ...
متن کاملImmune cells: plastic players along colorectal cancer progression
Inflammatory cells are involved in tumour initiation and progression. In parallel, the adaptive immune response plays a key role in fighting tumour growth and dissemination. The double-edged role of the immune system in solid tumours is well represented in colorectal cancer (CRC). The development and progression of CRC are affected by the interactions between the tumour and the host's response,...
متن کاملImmune Escape Mechanisms in Colorectal Cancer Pathogenesis and Liver Metastasis
Over the past decade, growing evidence indicates that the tumor microenvironment (TME) contributes with genomic/epigenomic aberrations of malignant cells to enhance cancer cells survival, invasion, and dissemination. Many factors, produced or de novo synthesized by immune, stromal, or malignant cells, acting in a paracrine and autocrine fashion, remodel TME and the adaptive immune response culm...

Abstract Background: Hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer is the most common cause of early onset of hereditary colorectal cancer. In the majority of Hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer families, microsatellite instability and germline mutation in one of the DNA mismatch repair genes in clouding MSH2, MLH1, MSH6 and PMS2 are found. The Objective of this study was to determine th...
متن کاملInterleukin-17: A Promoter in Colorectal Cancer Progression
It is widely accepted that chronic inflammation plays an active role in cancer. Inflammatory immunocytes and related cytokines in the tumor microenvironment are supposed to be a "double-edged sword" in colorectal cancer (CRC) initiation and progression. Interleukin-17 (IL-17), a pleiotropic proinflammatory cytokine, can promote cancer-elicited inflammation and prevent cancer cells from immune s...
